Dr Karol Kaczorowski

Karol Kaczorowski did his PhD in the Institute of Sociology at the Jagiellonian University, at the moment working at the Department of European Studies, Cracow University of Economics. Also, graduate from the Institute of Religious Studies. Author of articles in the fields of: sociology, cultural anthropology, anthropology of religion and policy. As part of the project How to make a voice audible? Continuity and change of Kurdish culture and of social reality in postcolonial perspectives he studied the change and continuity in Kurdish religiosity. He is mostly interested in minority faiths: Yezidism, Ahl-e Haqq and Alevism. The Polish book on these issues is being prepared.

 

His Phd thesis is focused on the social construction of ethnic identity among young Kurds, who are migrants from other parts of Turkey to Istanbul. For this project he obtained a Preludium grant from Polish National Science Center. He authored a sociological book concerning the reception of Arab Spring in Istanbul. Especially among Turkish students and in Turkish newspapers published in English. The book is supplemented by the chapter describing Gezi Park protests of 2013.
